ASHWAUBENON – The former Mack Truck site at 761 Pilgrim Way could become a new Subaru dealership in the event an access road is vacated to increase the property’s developable area.

The Ashwaubenon village board approved an initial resolution Tuesday, May 26, for vacating Pilgrim Way Access Road.

To provide the nearby property owners with at least 30 days of advance notice before possible final approval, the resolution sets a public hearing on the proposed road vacation for the board’s July 28 meeting.

Bergstrom Automotive requested vacating the cul-de-sac on the north side of the former Mack Truck site to construct a new building to house Bergstrom Subaru of Green Bay, Inc.

“Bergstrom Automotive understands that the Pilgrim Way Access Road may have utilities and easements within it and that these may need to remain in service after vacating,” said John J. Hogerty, II, Bergstrom executive vice president and general counsel, in a letter to Village President Mary Kardoskee. “Bergstrom Automotive also accepts costs associated with vacating the Pilgrim Way Access Road and any legal descriptions or legal recording fees attributed to this effort.”

Community Development Director Aaron Schuette said the initial resolution is the first of a multi-step process to vacate the road.

“Vacating the street would accommodate the redevelopment of the property, which has been vacant for a number of years, as a new dealership for Bergstrom Automotive Group,” he said. “Village staff has begun the process to review the site…”

Following action by the board, the village’s Plan Commission voted Tuesday, June 2, to recommend approval of vacating the Pilgrim Way Access Road.
