Aubrie Gorski is a senior at Green Bay Preble High School on the track and field and dance teams.

She’ll be attending UW-Milwaukee to study kinesiology, psychology and biochemistry and participate in track and field on a partial scholarship.

Tell me about your family.

“My older brother, Cullen, is 20, my dad is from Wausau and my mom is from the Green Bay area.”

Do you come from a sports family?

“My mom ran cross country and my dad did basketball, football and track in high school.”

Is there a sport you wish you had done?

“If it hadn’t interfered with dance, cross country would have been fun.”

Talk about dance.

“It was hard to juggle both sports at times, but dance taught me the intensity of competing, and it transferred over to track. Both sports benefited each other. I wouldn’t have become the track athlete I was without dance.”

Is there a track event you wish you’d done more?

“The 1,600-meter relay – I did it once last season and liked it.”

What was it like having Jeff Kline as your track coach?

“It was great. He came on board during my sophomore year. His motto was, ‘No drama and all results.’ He had effective methods to bring us together as a team.”

What’s your most memorable sports moment?

“Qualifying for state my sophomore year. Going into high school, I didn’t expect myself to make it that far.”

An embarrassing one?

“My junior year, I fell in the 100 hurdles at sectionals. It was both embarrassing and disappointing.”

You were the Fox River Classic Conference Female Field Athlete of the Year in 2018.

“It was exciting because I wasn’t expecting it. At the conference meet that year, I went all-out in both of my jumping events – that helped.”

I hear you’ll be doing the heptathlon at UW-Milwaukee.

“It consists of the 800, 200, 100 hurdles, shot put, javelin, high jump and long jump. I also might do the triple jump on the side.”

How are you staying busy not being in school due to COVID-19?

“I have about three or four hours of schoolwork a day, and I’m trying to stay connected with my friends.”

This isn’t how you envisioned your senior year ending.

“It’s disappointing. At the end of last season, I had lots of goals for this year, both personally and team-wise. I wanted to break the long jump and 100 hurdles records. As a team, we were going after our third straight FRCC title – not being able to go for that was the biggest disappointment.”

What’s your dream job?

“I’d like to become a physical therapist.”

What’s something about you most people don’t know?

“I like cows, and I don’t know why. I’ve always thought they were cool. I’m an animal person.”

What three words describe you?

“Determined, hard-working, (a little) crazy.”

What will you miss about Preble?

“I’ll miss the people, teachers and coaches.”
