Ethan Trewartha is a senior golfer at Pulaski High School.

He will be attending UW-La Crosse in the fall to study exercise and sports science.

Tell me about your family.

“My dad grew up in Hazel Green/Platteville, and my mom is from Green Bay. I have two sisters – Emma is 16 and Ella is 12.”

Do you come from a sports family?

“My mom played volleyball in high school, and my dad did basketball, baseball and football. He picked up golf in college. My sisters don’t do sports now. My grandpa is a big golfer. In the third grade, he bought me a golf set, and my dad would take me to the Brown County Golf Course.”

What other sport at Pulaski would you have played?

“Baseball. When I entered the ninth grade, I had to choose between golf and baseball – it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.”

How are you staying busy not being in school due to COVID-19?

“I’ve had the same routine every day – wake up, do my school work, shower, eat and take the dogs for a walk or go for a bike ride. I have a net, a piece of turf and a putting green in my basement to stay sharp. We all hope we can get back to school and play our sports, but we have to take as many precautions as we can for now.”

What are your thoughts on golf courses not being allowed to open?

“Golf is one of those sports where there’s natural social distancing, but you also have to realize everyone is touching the golf carts and pins. I think they could work around it some.”

What is your favorite local course?

“I work at Thornberry Creek at Oneida, so I get to golf there free. I’m a Minnesota Vikings fan, but I’ve seen a few Packers players there. I’ve seen Aaron Rodgers, and David Bakhtiari said ‘thank you’ when I dropped off his clubs – that’s about it.”

What are the best courses you’ve played?

“I’ve played Whistling Straits and The Irish courses in Kohler, the Green Bay Country Club and Horseshoe Bay Golf Club.”

What’s your favorite club in the bag?

“My 52-degree wedge, because it’s the perfect distance for me – about 115 yards.”

If you could, what professional golf tournament would be the best to win?

“The Masters – it’s the coolest course, the biggest tournament and has the most hype. I’d like to win a green jacket.”

Who’s your favorite professional golfer?

“Ricky Fowler. At the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, I got a signature from him on a flag.”

What’s it like having Andrew Gutzman as your golf coach?

“He’s younger, so he connects with us. He’s a golf pro, so he’s able to give us good tips. He played at Edgewood College.”

What’s your most memorable golf moment?

“Last year I did a partner tournament. We weren’t doing well, but we went 5-under par in the last six holes and ended up finishing second.”

An embarrassing one?

“In the eighth grade at a summer tournament, I was playing at Thornberry. On the 18th hole, there’s a big tree not far up and to the left. I shanked a drive, and it hit square in the middle of the tree, bounced back and landed 10 feet in front of me.”

What three words describe you?

“Dedicated, kind, hard-working.”

What are your hobbies?

“Sports, boating, jet skiing, going to our cabin and hanging out with friends.”

Besides golf, what’s your favorite sport to watch?

“Basketball. I like ‘March Madness,’ but I watch lots of Milwaukee Bucks games.”
