Player 2 Arcade Bar to open in April

GREEN BAY – A dose of arcade nostalgia is coming to downtown Green Bay.

Player 2 Arcade Bar is set to open in April in the former El Presidente Mexican Kitchen building on Washington Street.

“We absolutely love the location, and the building,” said owner Michael Joyce.

This is Player 2’s second location. The first is on College Avenue in Appleton.

“The space is absolutely phenomenal,” Joyce said. “You need a lot of square footage to fit this many machines into a bar. We have had our eye on this property for a long time, and it feels great to see it come to fruition.”

Joyce said he and his wife, Marissa, are excited to be a part of the energy downtown.

“We have been patrons of the other local downtown establishments for some time now, and we couldn’t be happier to have them as our new neighbors,” he said.

Joyce said the Washington Street location has enough space to develop their business model even further.

“We’ve developed a pretty good reputation with our Appleton location, and we are excited to bring that same experience to Green Bay,” he said. “Our Appleton location is currently the highest rated (via Google) arcade bar in the state of Wisconsin. With the Green Bay location providing a larger space, we are looking forward to building on that reputation.”

Joyce said the business model of Player 2 is unique because it gives customers something they can actively participate in when they go out on the town.

“We genuinely feel that if we can get you through the door one time, you will want to come back,” he said.

Player 2 is geared toward adults ages 21 and up with old-school arcade games and pinball machines, with the exception of the All Ages at Play 2 – Saturday Morning Cartoons event – held the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.

The plan is to have 65 different coin-operated games in the bar.

“These games include skee ball, arcades, pinball and more,” he said. “Our game collection ranges from arcade games from the early ‘80s to pinball new out-of-the-box.”

With old-school games, comes old-school prices.

“All of our games are extremely affordable to play,” he said. “Each arcade game is only one quarter to play, while our pinball machines are only 50 cents.”

Joyce said the Green Bay location will have daily specials on both games and beverages, as well as a focus on food, offering customers a variety of options.

“Our menu will be focused primarily on gourmet hamburgers, fries and cheese curds at affordable prices,” he said. “And of course, we will also have a full bar.”

The city council approved the liquor license at its meeting earlier this month.

Preparations are in full swing as the owners prepare for a soft opening in April.

“Currently, we have a graffiti artist painting a mural, and electricians making sure everything is sufficient for the needs of our establishment,” Joyce said. “We are spending every day making sure we have all the proper equipment to make the business fully functional.”

Player 2 will be open seven days a week, 365 days a year, with hours likely 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
