Wilco, Trampled by Turtles coming to Capital Credit Union Park

ASHWAUBENON – Grammy Award-winning band Wilco and beloved roots band Trampled by Turtles will perform at Capital Credit Union Park on Friday, Sep. 18.

This is the first concert event announced at Capital Credit Union Park since the stadium opened on June 1, 2019.

Tickets for the show will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, and can be purchased in-person at the Capital Credit Union Park Box Office (2231 Holmgreen Way, Green Bay, WI 54304) or Ticketmaster.com.

Wilco will kick off the 2020 North American run of their Ode To Joy tour March 9 at The Sylvee in Madison.

The tour supports the band’s latest studio album (their 11th), “Ode to Joy,” released Oct. 4.

On the heels of albums titled “Schmilco” and “Star Wars,” reappropriating the title of one of the most famous works of music in history is not lost on the band.

“I think it’s audacious and sincere,” said Jeff Tweedy, band front man. “It just kept coming back as the one title that felt honest. The record is, in a weird way, an ode; this terrible stuff is happening, this deepening sense of creeping authoritarianism that weighs on everybody’s psyche on a daily basis, and you’re allowed to feel a lot of things at once. And one thing that is worth feeling, that is worth fighting for, is your freedom to still have joy even though things are going to s***.”

Trampled By Turtles is from Duluth, Minnesota, where frontman Dave Simonett initially formed the group as a side project in 2003.

At the time, Simonett had lost most of his music gear, thanks to a group of enterprising car thieves who’d ransacked his vehicle while he played a show with his previous band.

Left with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, he began piecing together a new band, this time taking inspiration from bluegrass, folk, and other genres that didn’t rely on amplification.

Trampled released their latest album “Life Is Good On The Open Road” in 2018 followed by an all covers EP called “Sigourney Fever” in late 2019.

“When we announced the building of Capital Credit Union Park, we intended the facility to be a true event center for the community,” said John Fanta, vice president Green Bay Booyah and Green Bay Voyageurs FC. “This exciting announcement of Wilco and Trampled By Turtles coming to Capital Credit Union Park furthers our mission to bring the highest quality events to the Greater Green Bay Area.”

This show announcement is an extension of FPC Live and Big Top Baseball’s relationship at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, which began in 2015 with a sold-out The Avett Brothers show.

In years since, the organizations have worked to expand the series producing 16 concerts, and selling over 85,000 tickets.

FPC Live, Wisconsin’s largest concert promoter, alongside with their joint venture partner, Live Nation, produce nearly 550 events annually in Wisconsin, including the historical, sold-out Paul McCartney concert at Lambeau Field last year.

Information for this concert and future concert events will be listed on BooyahBaseball.com and GreenBayVoyageurs.com.
