Green Bay police to increase enforcement on Skyline

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Police Department will begin taking extra measures to enforce the 25 mph speed limit along Skyline Boulevard from Finger Road to Hillside Lane.

This after the city council voted unanimously at its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3, to request an increased police presence to help alleviate speeding in the area following a speed study.

“We have a documented speed problem that warrants putting a speed limit sign in,” said David Hansen, city traffic engineer. “Speed limit signs could help reduce speed in the area.”

Alders approved the installation of two “Speed limit 25” signs on Skyline, one in each direction.

At the Nov. 18 Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission meeting, Hansen recommended installing a 25 mph speed limit sign on the east roadway of Skyline just north of Finger Road because the study showed the majority of the speeding was happening in that direction.

However, District 5 Alder Craig Stevens made an amendment at the committee level to install a 25 mph speed limit sign on the west roadway just south of Sunrise Court as well.

Hansen said the study reported about 1,000-1,100 vehicles drive on Skyline per day.

Christmas open house

The mayor’s office will be hosting a Christmas open house from 4:30-5:45 p.m., prior to the Tuesday, Dec. 17, council meeting.

Mayor Eric Genrich said the event will feature local artists with art on display, as well as refreshments.

“I encourage members of the public and council members to stop in and meet some of the local artists that will have their art on display,” Genrich said.
