Tell me about your family.

“I have younger twin siblings who are 15 and freshmen at Bay Port. Their names are Landen and Chloe. My mom and dad went to Luxemburg-Casco High School.”

Do you come from a sports family?

“Landen runs cross country and wrestles, Chloe plays volleyball, my dad wrestled and my mom ran cross country and track – she was fast. She also played basketball and volleyball.”

How has the transition gone from football to wrestling?

“The biggest thing is getting into shape for wrestling. I’ve been doing lots of extra cardio to get ready. It’s totally different.”

After the team lost in the state championship football game, how many days did you take off before wrestling started?

“I took Saturday and Sunday off and then was back at wrestling practice the following Monday.”

What are your goals for the season?

“A realistic goal is to make it to state – I want to be a top-place finisher.”

What’s it like having Brad Shefchik as your wrestling coach?

“He’s a great guy and hard-working. He spends lots of time coming up with practice plans and cares about his wrestlers.”

What is the hardest aspect of wrestling?

“Going through the tough workouts and managing your weight. You have to eat the right foods.”

The Pirates have a strong team this season.

“We want to win the conference title and make it to Madison for the team state tournament.

You kicked a state-record 93 extra points this season – when did you start kicking?

“In the sixth or seventh grade, [teammate] Isaiah Gash and I would go to the field and kick. My dad would come with me when I got older, and I liked it. I started going to camps. I missed one extra point during this past season and had another one blocked. I made the field goal in the state championship game, too.”

How far can you kick it?

“This past summer at a showcase, I kicked a 51-yarder.”

Talk about the disappointment of losing that game.

“It was disappointing, but it was a special season. The chips didn’t fall our way, and we had too many errors on offense and defense. We kept our heads up, and I’m proud of the team.”

Do you have an embarrassing moment?

“During a football practice last season, I got my pants pulled down. It was on film, and everyone was watching.”

Does a favorite family vacation come to mind?

“We travel lots, but I liked the Grand Canyon. We did tons of hiking. It was an awesome trip.”

What three words describe you?

“Passionate, hard-working, responsible.”
