Sawyer Grovogel is a senior at West De Pere High School.

He is a two-sport athlete in football and soccer and made 209-of-212 extra points (99 percent) during his three-year varsity career.

In addition, Grovogel connected on 7-of-10 field goals.

As a junior soccer player, Grovogel helped the Phantoms win 10 games while scoring 60 goals as a team.

What was the hardest part about performing at your position in a soccer game?

“As a midfielder, the hardest part was making the transition between playing offense and defense and learning when to focus on one or the other.”

What were your goals for the 2019 season?

“To play the best in both football and soccer and make my teammates better by showing energy, leadership and hard work during every play.”

Talk about your family and how they have mentored you through life.

“They supported me by taking me to camps. It allowed me to improve my skills in soccer and taught me the values needed to be successful in life and sports.”

What is your favorite phone app?

“Any app where I can listen to music.”

What is your favorite World Cup moment you have witnessed on television?

“The diving header by Robin Van Persie in the 2014 World Cup or the finals match between Germany and Argentina.”

What are your college aspirations?

“Major in biochemistry and eventually become a doctor.”

What are your hobbies?

“Regular or disc golf.”

Talk about your biggest rivalry in soccer.

“We had a big rivalry with the Seymour Thunder.”

What three words describe you?

“Competitive, dedicated, knowledgeable.”

What was your favorite soccer field aesthetically?

“Cedarburg.”

Who is your favorite soccer player and team?

“Lionel Messi, because of his ability to make plays. Barcelona has great team chemistry and plays with the team in mind rather than individual players.”

A penalty kick or a 45-yard curving shot over the goalie?

“A 45-yard curving shot.”

What are three things you want to accomplish as a senior to showcase your leadership at West De Pere?

“I want to leave a lasting legacy through my academic success, along with my personal and team results in sports. I believe these will show you should do well in school as well as in sports.”

What other sport would you have tried at West De Pere?

“Lacrosse, because I played when I was younger but had to stop since it interfered with club soccer.”

What is your favorite sporting event attended?

“The Wisconsin Badgers vs. Miami Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl football game.”

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“Working in a doctor’s residency towards radiology.”
