MADISON – Ashwaubenon junior swimmer Hallory Domnick won the WIAA Division 2 state title in the 500-yard freestyle in Madison Nov. 15.

Domnick’s time of 5:04.85 was more than 6 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher.

She followed up her state title with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 57.61.

“Going into the meet, I was calm and excited because it was my third time at state,” said Domnick. “I had no expectations – I wanted to swim fast for my time. When I saw the No. 1 by my name, I cried because it’s been a goal of mine to win a state title. During the race, I told myself to keep my stroke strong and not worry about the other swimmers.”

Freshman Bry Bellile took home a pair of thirds in the 50 freestyle (23.55) and the 100 freestyle (51.70).

Sophomore Jocelyn McNicoll finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.97).

The 400 freestyle relay team (Domnick, Sydney Popp, Evelyn Geurts, Bellile) finished second in 3:36.75, while the 200 medley relay team (Bellile, McNicoll, Domnick, Geurts) came across the line in fourth.

The Jaguars finished third as a team with 141.5 points.

“I’m proud of this team,” Domnick said. “Last year, we got 19th. Ashwaubenon swimming and diving will get stronger, and I can’t wait to see what happends next season.”

Edgewood won the team state title with 290 points, with McFarland coming in second with a 163.5 total.
