Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight: Charlie Wied – Notre Dame Academy hockey, soccer

Charlie Wied is a senior at Notre Dame Academy.

Wied played soccer on a team which finished 16-8-2 and advanced to the sectional finals.

He tallied 23 points on the season.

This winter, Wied will return to play hockey for the Tritons.

As a junior, he scored nine points as a second-ice forward.

Talk about scoring the winning goal against Plymouth to lift the team to the sectional finals.

“The Plymouth game was a great team effort, and the atmosphere was amazing. Kai Assef gave me a perfect pass through the defensive line, and I was able to capitalize. The game was a blast to play in.”

Who was the quietest person on your team?

“Abraham Gomez is pretty quiet until you get to know him.”

How many times can you head the ball to yourself without letting it hit the ground? 

“Four or five times.”

A week in Thailand or a week in Ireland? 

“Ireland, because I have family ancestry which traces back to there.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? 

“J.K. Scott.”

What are your goals for the 2019 hockey season?

“I’m looking forward to a successful season and to finish my senior year strong academically.”

A cool or a hot summer?

“Hot.”

Talk about soccer coach Michael Prudisch.

“He’s a great coach and person. We didn’t know what to expect with a new coach this season, but he exceeded our expectations, and we were lucky to have him.”

Jetski or swim?

“Jetski.”

What is something about you most people don’t know?

“I started my own small business about a year ago.”

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“I hope to have a successful career in either business or law.”

Talk about a time when you helped somebody.

“I went on a service trip this past summer with my church and helped out members of the Winnebago Tribe in Nebraska.”

What are your college aspirations? 

“I plan to attend UW-Madison’s business school.”

What are your hobbies? 

“Besides soccer and hockey, I love hanging out with friends and traveling with my family. I also spend a lot of time on my small business.”

What two words describe you? 

“Authentic, driven.”

Talk about your family.

“I’m the oldest of four boys. I have twin brothers who are sophomores, George and Frank, and I have a freshman brother, Simon. We all attend Notre Dame, which is pretty cool.”

What is the greatest piece of advice you have been told by a teacher?

“Good work takes hard work.”

What is your favorite phone app?

“Twitter.”

Who is your favorite soccer player?

“Roberto Firmino, because he’s good at soccer and has nice teeth.”

Toughest team you’ve played against in soccer?

“Verona gave us a tough time each year I was on varsity.”

How do you define success?

“Achieving a certain goal by doing whatever it takes.”
