Nigel the giraffe ready for his NEW Zoo debut

SUAMICO – The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park has announced the arrival of Nigel, its new 9-year-old male reticulated giraffe.

Nigel traveled from the Erie Zoo in Pennsylvania to Green Bay in a specially designed giraffe trailer that requires 14-foot clearance.

The giraffe was monitored constantly during the transport via a camera feed from the trailer.

Prior to the move, Zookeeper Shannon Scanlan spent several days at the Erie Zoo to meet Nigel and the people who know him best.

Working with Nigel and his keepers gave Scanlan the opportunity to get to know him and to understand his routine.
Continuity of care will help Nigel be comfortable in his new home, and the NEW Zoo hopes having a familiar face to greet him made his transition easier.

The NEW Zoo also expects he and Zuri will also develop a close relationship, as signs have been seen that a bond between them is already forming.

Nigel will make his public debut on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Giraffe Feeding Experience will be open daily (November through March) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and again from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Besides the arrival of Nigel, effective Friday, Nov. 1, the NEW Zoo hours of operation will change to the winter schedule.

Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The NEW Zoo will remain open seven days a week, including holidays.
