Early score propels Notre Dame

GREEN BAY – The Notre Dame Academy boys’ soccer team made the short trip to Green Bay Southwest High School and turned the momentum from an early score into a 3-0 Fox River Classic Conference victory Sept. 17.

The Tritons (5-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 FRCC) went to work in Southwest’s zone immediately.

At the 2:38 mark with the ball in front of the Trojans’ goal, Adam Brada got free and put a shot past the Southwest (2-2, 1-1) keeper on the right side of the net.

A Notre Dame insurance goal followed at 14:45 when Tim Geocaris cranked a free-kick past the defense to put the Tritons up 2-0.

“Fortunately, a couple of early goals allowed us to calm down and play our game,” said Notre Dame head coach Michael Prudisch. “Once we were ahead, we worked on possessing the ball, passing it around and creating opportunities.”

The second half of play opened with a flurry of action from the Trojans in the Notre Dame zone.

Southwest’s Khalid Sufi rifled a shot on goal, only to have it sail wide left.

The Tritons wasted no time getting back on the attack following the near-miss by Sufi.

A few crisp passes later, Sam Limoni did the rest – blasting past a pair of defenders for a breakaway opportunity for the final tally of the game.

“We need to trust each other,” said Southwest head coach Jay Draves. “They need to know everyone is going to be doing his job out there. Halftime was team-led, and I think they came out in the second with a lot of energy. They know they’re going to have to outwork the other team, and I think they’re playing with a lot of heart.”
