Preble hopes to install field turf

GREEN BAY – At its Sept. 13 football game, Preble High School kicked off its Preble Pride Stadium Project.

Preble announced its plans to install a new running track and the conversion of its athletic field to synthetic turf.

The total cost of Phase I of this project is projected at $1.2 million, which will maximize outdoor opportunities for students at Preble.

Phase II is projected at $1.5 million.

This phase will include the creation of a second entrance plaza, decorative fencing at new entrances and the creation of a player/coach entrance.

New buildings will also be constructed, such as a new concession stand, bathrooms, ticket room and storage building.

An LED scoreboard and additional stadium seating are also within the Phase II plans.

The renovation is built upon three main ideas: safety, access and equity.

Studies have shown that synthetic turf fields are safer than natural grass sports surfaces when it comes to frequency of injuries.

Synthetic turf fields also allow teams to practice and play during inclement weather.

Additionally, a synthetic turf field would meet the WIAA requirements for hosting tournament games, which Preble has not been able to do for over 10 years.

Not only will the football and soccer programs benefit from synthetic turf, but other groups will as well.

Preble co-curricular activities, middle and elementary school activities and physical education classes would be held on the new field.

The benefits of this project also reach out to the community, as city park and recreation programs will have access to the field, along with community programs such as youth camps and Special Olympics.
