Getting to know your Booyah

Green Bay Booyah player, No. 17 Brady West

By Murray Gleffe

Correspondent

Name: Brady West

Number: 17

Position: Catcher/First/DH

Hometown: Rockford, Illinois

High School: Rockford Lutheran

College: Indiana Wesleyan, North Greenville

West is currently batting .320 and has 27 RBI on the season.

He is best known as a catcher for taking the hit by a youngster rounding the bases between innings.

Earliest baseball memory: “After I caught my first ball in t-ball, I did a summersault backward. That officially started my catching career.”

Most memorable baseball moment: “My first actual home run. I was a sophomore in high school. I remember sprinting the whole way until I knew it had cleared. I gave my dad a big hug after I had touched home plate and got congratulations from my teammates.”

Most embarrassing baseball moment: “It was a rainy day, and I had some bad cleats on. I was rounding first base and took a really bad spill. I rolled around in the dirt for what seemed like forever. The worst part about it was the ball was caught.”

Strengths as a player: “I like to think I bring a lot of energy to the dugout. I think I am a light for some guys that might be down and be able to lift them up to get through the day.”

What is it like living in Green Bay and playing in the new Capital Credit Union Stadium: “It’s a dream for me. I’ve always wanted to play in the Northwoods League throughout my collegiate career. It’s been nice having a great summer with the team. The people are great and I love the fan support.”

Best advice someone has given you: “Be myself. Don’t let other people control me or conform to what others do. Have fun and play the way I know how to.”

Favorite MLB team: “Boston Red Sox. Growing up, I was a Dustin Pedroia fan because I was small and undersized like him and felt that he overachieved as a player.”

Future plans: “I am a criminal justice major. Professional baseball is always the goal, but if that doesn’t work out, I plan to get into federal law enforcement.”
