Booyah’s errors doom them in defeat

ASHWAUBENON—The Green Bay Booyah committed four costly errors as they dropped a Northwoods League game to the Wisconsin Woodchucks by a final of 8-0 at Capital Credit Union Park.

Tommy Miller took the loss for the Booyah going four innings, giving up 8 hits and 7 runs.

Greyson Fletcher picked up the win for the Woodchucks throwing 5 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on four hits.

“We’ve had some roster turn-over in the past week or so and sometimes it’s hard to be on the same page,” said Tom Carty, Green Bay Booyah Manager. “However, you can’t make that many mistakes early like we did tonight.”

In a matchup of teams with identical records on August 2, it was the Woodchucks that struck in the top of the first.

With one out and TJ Reeves on second, Adam Frank sent a shot over the right field wall to give Wisconsin an early 2-0 lead.

One inning later, Wisconsin kept the pedal down.

With two outs, Brandon Seitzer tripled to center and then scored on a wild pitch by Miller.

Meanwhile the only bright spots for the Booyah on this night were the hitting of Cooper Morrison, Blaise Maris and Nick Kreutzer.

“We’ve had some consistent guys at the top that have made plays for us all year,” added Carty. “I’m proud of the players for not giving up and playing pretty even ball the last four or five innings.”

Later on with Wisconsin up 4-0 in the top of the fourth the mistakes started to mount.

Alejandro Gonzalez led off with a blooper to centerfield that three Booyah players couldn’t haul in.

After two strikes out by Miller, Frank tripled to center to bring a run home.

Things then turned downright ugly in the Booyah outfield.

Designated hitter Byron Murray sent a moonshot out into right field. Nobody called for the ball as it hit the turf. The throw was wild and both Frank and Murray made it all the way home extending the Woodchucks lead to 7-0.

“We had some lapses during that fourth inning,” said Carty. “I normally don’t make changes that early but felt it was a good time to mix things up.”

Wisconsin added a late run to shutout Green Bay and push the Booyah to six games below .500 on the season.

Box Score:

Wisconsin 211 300 100—8 13 0
