Bergin Olson is a recent graduate of Notre Dame Academy.

He was a two-time varsity performer on the Tritons’ golf team.

During Olson’s junior year, Notre Dame made it to state and finished 14th overall.

Talk about how difficult it is to hit ‘that little white ball?’

“It is not hard to hit, but to hit it where you want it to go takes a lot of practice.”

What did you think of Tiger Woods winning the Masters?

“I thought it was awesome for sports. Even if you are not a fan of Tiger, you have to respect the hard work and dedication he put in to get to where he is today.”

What was your most embarrassing golf moment?

“Shooting an 89 on the first day of the state tournament.”

A chip-in for eagle or a 350-yard drive piped down the middle?

“This is a great question. If I was in a team tournament, I would take a chip in for eagle every day of the week. If I was playing with my friends, I would love to see the looks on their faces when I hit it 350 yards.”

Talk about Coach Bobinski.

“Coach Bobinski and I had a very different relationship. It consisted of a lot of teasing and joking. The role he gave me as a senior is something I worked very hard for. I respect him a lot, and he helped me grow as a person these last four years.”

What are your thoughts on the Ryder Cup coming to Wisconsin in 2020?

“It can’t come soon enough. I registered to be in the lottery for tickets on the first day.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be?

“Professional golfer Justin Thomas. He lives in Jupiter, Florida. He is crazy good at golf and has a five-television set-up in his man cave.”

Which do you like better, a short downhill par four or a par three over water?

“Short downhill par four. Those types of holes are confidence boosters for me because I tend to score well on them.”

Favorite recovery shot of all-time and why?

“A crazy shot shape from Phil Mickelson to make a birdie or when Rory McIlroy was on the sand in the water hazard on hole 5 at Whistling Straits.”

What are your college aspirations?

“I will be attending the University of Kansas for sports management beginning this fall.”

What three words describe you?

“Funny, talkative, confident”

US Open or Players Championship?

“Players Championship. I love to see the pros struggle in the US Open, but TPC Sawgrass is a dream of mine to play, and the rich history it brings to the venue is unmatchable.”

Who is your favorite golfer and why?

“Jason Day. I met him at the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, and he was extremely nice to me, so I have cheered for him since.”

Which do you dislike more, playing from the sand or 4-inch rough?

“The 4-inch rough. It’s easy to control some shots out of the sand, but there are times when shots from the rough come out unpredictable.”

What are two things you miss about attending Notre Dame High School?

“Visits with Mr. Masarik and the golf team.”

What is your ideal foursome on the golf course if you could pick anybody in the world?

“Juju Smith-Schuster, Jason Day and Drake.”

What other sport would you have tried had you not been so successful at golf?

“Basketball has always been a passion of mine, and I played for Notre Dame my freshman year.”

35 for nine or a 79 for 18?

“35 without a doubt. Red numbers, over breaking 80 whenever possible.”
