New development could be coming to Suamico

SUAMICO – A planned development district (PDD) received the go-ahead at the July 1 Suamico village board meeting.

That could bring multi-family housing, retail space and a brewery to the village.

Midwest Expansion applied for the PDD, which is along East Deerfield Avenue north of Lineville Road, off Interstate 41.

“We’re looking at just over a 15-acre total, 12-plus acres being the multi-family portion and right around three acres being the business commercial end of it,” said Steve Dunks, zoning administrator.

Dunks said the residential component will include six buildings, four 12-unit buildings, one 16-unit building and one 12-stall garage.

The residential buildings will be similar in style and quality to the Urban Edge Apartments with most units having at least a single stall garage within the main building, he said.

On the southern retail portion there is an existing building and plans for two additional buildings.

Dunks said one building will likely be a brewery around 9,000 square feet and another possible future restaurant of up to 4,000 square feet.

Midwest Expansion previously worked in Suamico on the Urban Edge Towne Centre.

No one spoke at a public hearing for the PDD and the motion passed unanimously.

In other news, after meeting in closed session, the board agreed to extend a contract with Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal for garbage and recycling pickup through 2027.

“Ultimately, through those seven years we know what we will be charged over those years, but how that gets passed on to property owners we will need to smooth that out during the budget process,” said Alex Kaker, village administrator.

Trustee Dan Roddan and Village President Laura Nelson voted against the contract extension.

“My position of voting no on this this evening is solely due to it being a $3 million contract, that we do in fact have a (garbage disposal) company in our village and this is a gray area,” Roddan said.
