ASHWAUBENON – The Green Bay Booyah baseball team used two big innings to defeat Fond du Lac 5-4 at Capital Credit Union Park July 3.

Tommy Miller was the winning pitcher for Green bay, going six complete innings and giving up seven hits and two runs.

Tanner Lane got the save for the Booyah, pitching two scoreless innings.

“We had a good deal of balance today,” said Chris Williams, Booyah right fielder. “Five different guys scored, and everybody did what they needed to do to get the victory. It was a hard-earned win.”

Green Bay has had difficulty starting games. and today was no different with the Dock Spiders notching a run right out of the gates to go up 1-0 after half an inning.

This night, however, was different in the fact that the Booyah struck back in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

Joe Mason led off with an infield single after beating the throw to first.

Williams then showed his power by ripping a shot that landed at the warning track and went over the left-field wall for a ground-rule double.

A groundout by Jacob Buchberger brought Mason home to tie the game at one apiece.

Jarrett Ford then connected on a single to center scoring Williams to give Green Bay a 2-1 lead.

After a couple of scoreless innings, the Booyah added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Mike Ferri took first after an error was given to Fond du Lac’s shortstop (Charlie Maxwell) for overthrowing first base.

Cooper Morrison walked, and then Blaise Maris grabbed an RBI for nailing a line-drive single to center scoring Ferri.

Green Bay wasn’t done.

With one out, Nick Kreutzer hit a deep sacrifice fly that scored Morrison to give the Booyah a 4-1 lead.

Both teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh to keep Green Bay’s lead at three runs.

The Dock Spiders imposed their will in the bottom of the eighth.

Andrew Bullock opened the inning with a hit by pitch.

Zeb Adreon then sent a double to right field, putting two base runners on.

Aaron Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Bullock, cutting the margin to 5-3.

With two outs, Kellen Sarver singled to left field to bring Green Bay’s lead to a single run.

The Booyah carried that 5-4 margin into the top of the ninth when chaos ensued.

With one out and Tate Kolwyck on first after a lead-off walk, Tim Elko stepped to the plate for Fond du Lac.

Elko hit a chopper that was fielded and thrown wide of Kreutzer at first base.

At the last second, Kreutzer appeared to tag Elko, but the side umpire called him safe.

Booyah manager Tom Carty came out onto the field to talk to the lead umpire.

After a five-minute conference among the crew, Elko was called out and Dock Spiders manager Zac Charbonneau wasn’t happy.

After the commotion ended, Lane (Booyah closer) was able to get a groundout to end the game and give Green Bay a much-needed victory.

“We have a long stretch of games coming up, and we have to stay together as a team,” added Williams. “We have to win close ones like we did tonight.”
