ASHWAUBENON—Muhammed Ali didn’t invade Capital Credit Union Park, but Ali LaPread did.

The newly acquired LaPread, playing in his second game with Green Bay, scored the only run of the game and made a game-stopping play on defense to lift the Booyah to a 1-0 Northwoods League win over Fond du Lac at Capital Credit Unior Park June 18.

“It was a great team win for us,” said LaPread. “Very defensive with great pitching tonight. I took two flights to get here on Sunday, and it’s been great to be in the lineup and get our team going.”

Fond du Lac outhit Green Bay 7-3 for the game.

Tommy Miller got the win, going six innings for the Booyah, giving up five hits but no runs.

Chandler Ingram received the save for Green Bay.

Sam Grace went 5 innings in the loss for the Dock Spiders, giving up the single run.

“I felt like I was hitting the corners really well today,” said Miller. “As the game went on, my off-speed pitches weren’t the greatest, but Luke and Chandler came in and did a great job getting the last nine outs.”

In the top of the second, Fond du Lac/s Zeb Adreon got a two-out single and tried to advance to third on a throw back error by Miller to first base. However, Adreon was thrown out at third, keeping the game scoreless.

The Booyah had their own misfortunes with base running.

In the bottom of the second, Blaise Maris led off with a single and then advanced to third after a stolen base and ground out.

Ty Herrenbruck then sent a ground ball to Grace (Dock Spiders pitcher), who caught Maris in a run-down to keep the game scoreless.

In the bottom of the third, Green Bay struck to take the lead.

LaPread had a lead-off walk and then advanced to second with a stolen base.

Joe Mason followed suit with a walk of his own and Maris delivered the RBI single to bring LaPread home for the only run of the game.

“You never know when a run will hold up in a game,” added LaPread.

In the top of the sixth with two outs-and one on, Fond du Lac’s Kellen Sarver ripped a shot that looked like it was heading for extra bases, when out of nowhere came a leaping LaPread to snag the third out of the inning.

Fond du Lac continued to put runners on base throughout the remainder of the game but the Booyah pitchers shut the door.

In the top of the ninth, Ingram delivered the final three outs to push Green Bay’s record to 12-9 on the season.

“We have to continue doing the little things to get victories,” said Miller. “With the exception of Wilmer and Madison, everybody is fighting and scrapping for wins. Good to come out on the right side tonight.”
