Forum on possible referendum projects set for May 21

By Press Times Staff

ASHWAUBENON – A public forum related to possible projects as part of a potential school referendum next year in Ashwaubenon has been scheduled for 6 p.m. May 21 in the Performing Arts Center.

Keith Lucius, business director for Ashwaubenon schools, said the forum will provide members of the public the opportunity to ask questions and provide input about the projects being considered by the school board for inclusion in a referendum in 2020.

Based on $14-15 million worth of project costs, Lucius informed the board earlier this year the district could hold a referendum next year with the debt to be paid back over 15 years at around $1 million per year and keep the tax rate constant, given the district is paying off its existing debt this year.

The board has authorized hiring a consultant to get cost estimates for potential referendum projects.

Along with projects being looked at with the existing facilities, some of which include replacing three gym floors, repairing the high school track and remodeling the old high school commons into a new district office, installing air conditioning in three school buildings has been proposed and the construction of a new multi-purpose building is also being considered.
