ASHWAUBENON – After rebidding the work came under budget, the Ashwaubenon village board agreed Tuesday, March 26, to award a $187,100 contract to QSP Utility of Waterford for aquatic enhancements at Ashwaubomay Park and Manseau Flats.

Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Rex Mehlberg said QSP was the low bidder for the project, which is being fully funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) programs.

“We broke (the project) down in different alternates to make sure that we’d be able to award a bid this time, which happened,” Mehlberg said. “We got some really good quotes, compared to the other two times that we bid.”

Mehlberg said the project will make two fishing shoals on the north side of Ashwaubomay Park and allow some logs to be put into the shoals for some fish habitat.

He also noted the work at Manseau Flats will involve placing two pass-through pikes into the seawall that is there, as well as help out with some fish habitat in the water.

Infrastructure, sidewalk projects

In other action, the board approved a bid of $702,890 from Vinton Construction for infrastructure improvements as part of the Element Way development along Marvelle Lane and the final connection of sidewalk along Waube Lane to tie the Industrial Park trail system into the village sidewalk system running along Oneida Street.

Public Works Director Doug Martin said the sidewalk has been planned for the north side of Waube Lane to tie into the trail system because there are utility conflicts on the south side where there are also a few more driveways which cause safety issues in terms of sidewalk usage.

Martin said about $1.1 million in Tax Incremental Financing District No. 3 funds had been budgeted for the two projects.
