SUAMICO – The Green Bay East softball team got the win it was looking for.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back in a 13-6 non-conference victory over Bay Port April 1 at Bay Port High School.

“This was a great victory for our program,” said Green Bay East head coach Craig Kozlowski. “We worked hard this past offseason, so it was a rewarding win. Bay Port is a very good team and will win a lot of games this season.”

East used the solid pitching of Morgan Nemecek and a big bat from catcher Teagan Delarwelle.

Nemecek struck out five and walked just one in her seven innings pitched, while Delarwelle drilled a three-run homer to right-center field off Bay Port pitcher Nicole Vandervest in the third.

“Morgan pitched a great game and Teagan had the big hit,” Kozlowski added. “They have worked together for years, so it doesn’t surprise me that they came out and did this.”

Delarwelle and Tatiana Gonion had three hits apiece, while Nemecek and Kendra Flashberger each added two.

Flashberger had four runs batted in.

Vandervest had three hits, and Maddy Ehlke and Jourdan Lee each had a pair for Bay Port.

Vandervest struck out eight Red Devils but was hampered by eight walks.

The Pirates were playing without all-conference player Emma Hock.
