Senior Spotlight: Dylan Landsinger – Ashwaubenon swimming

Dylan Landsinger is a senior at Ashwaubenon High School who just completed his senior year with the boys’ swimming team.

The Jaguars won the most recent Division 2 sectional title by three points over Cedarburg.

Landsinger finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly, 13th in the 50 freestyle and third and sixth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle (qualified for state) and 200 medley relay.

Talk about what a typical practice was like on a non-meet day.

“We would start off by doing 30 push-ups, sit-ups and stream-line jumps. After that, we all met down at the shallow end of the pool to hear the warm-up. Then we usually had a warm-up set, followed by our main swimming sets. Lastly, we ended practice with a cool-down swim and would go to the weight room and work out.”

How many laps do you estimate you swam in a week in-season?

“Too many to count.”

What is your most memorable moment in swimming?

“My most memorable moment in swimming was probably after practice talking and hanging out with my fellow teammates.”

What is your most embarrassing moment in swimming?

“It had to be my first swim meet wearing a brief.”

Talk about how Coach Merner shaped you as a swimmer?

“He instilled a good work ethic and a passion for the sport. He took me from being a person who had never swum competitively, to a state qualifier in just two years.”

What are three places you’d love to visit in the world and why?

“I would love to visit Rome to see the architecture, Australia to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef and to Jerusalem to visit the Western Wall.”

What is one college you’d love to swim for?

“I would want to go to UW-Milwaukee.”

What is your favorite event in swimming?  

“The 400-yard freestyle relay.”

If you could attend The Olympics for swimming, which athlete would you like to see and why?

“Cody Miller, because I enjoy watching his YouTube channel and would like to see him swim breaststroke.”

What is your favorite thing about the new Ashwaubenon swimming pool?  

“My favorite thing is all of the fond memories I made during swim practice and at the meets.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? 

“Elon Musk.”

Do you have a nickname or something a teammate called you during a meet? 

“Landshark.”

Which would you rather take a dip in, the Pacific or the Atlantic Ocean during the summer? 

“Pacific Ocean.”

What is one thing that other teammates or coaches don’t know about you?

“I can type 100 words per minute.”

What are your college aspirations? 

“Get a four-year degree in computer science.”

What is your favorite class that you’ve taken at Ashwaubenon during your four years? 

“Astronomy or space science.”

What three words describe you? 

“Epic, funny, caring.”

What is your favorite Ashwaubenon sports event to attend during either fall, winter or spring? 

“Football.”
