Boys’ basketball FRCC awards announced

GREEN BAY – The 2018-19 Fox River Classic Conference season awards were recently announced for boys’ basketball.

Locally, Green Bay Southwest head coach John Polkowski was selected as the coach of the year after helping lead the Trojans to a 22-3 record.

Southwest was ranked No. 3 in Division 2 but bowed out in the sectional semifinals.

Bay Port’s Logan Geissler was named the FRCC defensive player of the year for the 16-8 Pirates.

Brett Widder (Sheboygan North) was the player of the year, while Josh Nicklaus (Green Bay Preble), Josh Govek (Sheboygan South) Mason Mopirak (Manitowoc Lincoln) and Will Pytleski and Lucas Stieber from Southwest made the first team.

Second-team honors went to Geissler, Brad Nies (De Pere), Trevor Stiede (Pulaski), Kyle Krueger (Ashwaubenon), Sawyer Pothast (North) and Bryan Boockmeier (Preble).

Honorable-mention choices were Christopher Morgan (Ashwaubenon), Andrew Thomas (Bay Port), Will Dehn (De Pere), George Kress (Notre Dame), Max Wagner (Preble), Logan Lukasik (Pulaski) and Carson Landry and Owen Stieber from Southwest.

In addition to Geisser, the defensive team consisted of Widder, Bookmeier, Lucas Steiber, Jake Kinziger (De Pere) and Austin Thyes (North).
