Girls’ basketball FRCC awards announced

GREEN BAY – The 2018-19 Fox River Classic Conference season awards were recently announced for girls’ basketball.

Bay Port’s Emma Nagel was named the FRCC player/defensive player of the year.

Nagel averaged 13.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

Green Bay Preble’s Jim Doell garnered coach-of-the-year honors for leading the Hornets to a 20-4 overall record and a second-place finish in the FRCC behind Bay Port before bowing out in a WIAA Division 1 regional final game.

Joining Nagel on the first team were Jaddan Simmons (Southwest), Kendall Renard and Carley Duffney from Preble, Rachel Kerkhoff (De Pere) and Sammy Opichka (Notre Dame).

Second-team honors went to Jasmine Litt (Pulaski), Meredith Opie (Sheboygan North), McKenzie Johnson (Bay Port), Georgia Gregoire (Notre Dame) and De Pere’s Jordan Meulemans and Natalie Cerrato.

Honorable mention choices were Lily Hansford and Anna Wendorf from Ashwaubenon, Bay Port’s Mady Draak and Alaina Abel, Charley Apple (Notre Dame), Julie Scharinger (North) and Isabel Majewski and Maggie Hernandez from Pulaski.

In addition to Nagel, the defensive team consisted of Simmons, Renard, Kerkhoff, Litt and Bay Port’s Grace Krause.
