Neverman shines at state swimming meet

MADISON – Green Bay United (GBU) boys’ swimmer Kaiser Neverman had a pair of top-four finishes at the WIAA Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 15-16 at the UW-Madison Natatorium.

Neverman took third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.84) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (48.82).

For Bay Port, Ozan Kalafat finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:45.91) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (59.33).

Griffin Hawley placed 13th in the 100 freestyle (48.09) and was 14th in the 50 freestyle (21.48).

Victor Kostov finished 21st in the 200 individual medley (2:00.27) and 17th in the 100 backstroke (54.21).

Lucas Thibert was 14th in the 500 freestyle (4:52.48) and Kyle Zerbel was 13th in the 100 backstroke (53.58)

Bay Port placed 10th in the 200 medley relay in time of 1:37.43. Members of that team were Kostov, Kalafat, Ben Storby and Zerbel.

GBU’s team of Connor Howe, Macoy Socha, Neverman and Riley Komp placed 14th in the same event (1:39.01).

GBU’s 200 freestyle relay team of Komp, Zachary Karnz, Howe and Neverman finished 14th (1:29.86), while Bay Port’s 400 freestyle relay team of Hawley, Zerbel, Payton Schilz and Kalafat came in 15th (3:16.48).

In Division 2, Pulaski’s Ben Bouchard finished sixth in the 100 freestyle (49.43) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:46.64), and diver Mason Trinh (272.70) placed 13th in the 1-meter competition.

For Ashwaubenon, Joe Steffel was sixth in the 200 IM (2:00.24) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.23), Spencer Klika finished seventh in the 100 freestyle (49.50), Jackson Hodek placed 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:06.23) and Nick Messamore came home in 14th place in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.70).

Ashwaubenon’s 400 freestyle relay team of Klika, Cooper Herr, Dylan Landsinger and Steffel rounded out the results by finishing 16th (3:28.81).
