HOWARD – Of the six trustee seats up for election next spring on the Howard village board, at least one of them will be filled by someone not currently on the board.

Ron Bredael

Trustee Ron Bredael, who represents Wards 1-2, has filed a declaration of non-candidacy and won’t be seeking a new two-year term, said Chris Haltom, Howard village clerk.

Bredael served on the board from 1991 to 2013 and then returned in 2015.

“It’s just time to slow down,” Bredael said about being in elective office for around 30 years and reaching age 80.

Haltom said two of the three other trustees whose seats will also be up for new two-year terms next spring have filed nomination papers to run again.

The two trustees who have filed to run again include Adam Lemorande (Wards 13, 14 and 18) and Craig McAllister (Wards 15-17).

Trustee Chris Nielsen (Wards 3-4) has taken out nomination papers.

The two trustees who were appointed by the board this year and have their seats up for election next spring for one-year terms include John Muraski (Wards 7-8) and Scott Beyer (Wards 9-10).

Beyer took his seat on the board in July to replace Jim Lemorande, who passed away in June.

Muraski joined the board in September to replace Mike Hoppe, who resigned this summer.

Nomination papers to run for village trustee must be filed by 5 p.m. Jan. 2 with at least 20 valid signatures from residents within the respective districts.

The spring general election is set for April 2.

If primaries are needed, they will be held Feb. 19.
