ASHWAUBENON – The No. 3 ranked St. Norbert hockey team scored all five of their goals in the final two periods en route to a 5-0 shutout win over Marian Dec. 1.

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game took place at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.

Timmy Nicksic, Brendon Gysbers, Dominick Sacco, Keegan Milligan and Peyton Frantti each tallied a goal for the victorious Green Knights, while goalie TJ Black made 15 saves in net.

Only three penalties were committed the entire game.

After a scoreless first period, St. Norbert tallied a short-handed goal to start the second period.

Steven Phillips centered a pass to Nicksic for the score.

“It was a very physical game, and we got the momentum to start the second period,” said St. Norbert assistant coach Andy Brandt. “Our detail to defense was excellent with those six guys back there. TJ didn’t see many shots but was very effective in stopping every one of them. It was a good win for us against a quality team.”

Seconds later, Marian nearly evened the game while on the power play.

Blaine Caton found himself on the doorstep of the net, but Black somehow turned him away to preserve the one-goal lead.

The Green Knights struck for their second goal of the contest with 15:24 left in the second period when Gysbers sent a slap shot past Marian goalie Hunter Vorva.

“Brendon got a clean look on the shot and I’m not sure if Vorva saw it with three of his teammates in front of him,” added Brandt.

Sacco tallied a goal just 39 seconds into the third period to add to the Green Knights lead.

St. Norbert struck twice within a seven-second frame with just under seven minutes left for the final margin, as Milligan and Frantti closed the scoring.

The Green Knights improved to 8-2-1 on the season and 4-2 in the NCHA. The setback for the Sabres (6-3-1, 5-1) was their first in conference play.

St. Norbert will travel to Augsburg University for a pair Dec. 7 and 8.
