Historic Crystal Ballroom to hold public information meeting

HILBERT – The Historic Crystal Ballroom, also known as Crystal Ballroom Community Dance Company, invites the public to come learn more about how to help preserve the Crystal Ballroom.

An informational meeting will be held at noon, Aug. 4, at the Crystal Ballroom, W3307 County Road B, Hilbert, WI 54129.

This meeting is open to all.

Ninety years have passed since the building now known as the Crystal Ballroom first opened its doors in St. John in 1928.

Built on the site of an earlier dance hall at a stage coach way-station, it embodies a vision of grace from a by-gone era. Glittering chandeliers, an inviting maplewood dance floor, and airy windows letting in sunlight by day and starlight by night make the Crystal Ballroom a special place for thousands of Wisconsinites and out-of-state visitors.

Over 500 couples have pledged their wedding vows at the Crystal over the past 20 years, and countless others before them.

Historic Crystal Ballroom/Crystal Ballroom Community Dance Company was founded to preserve the Crystal Ballroom and has applied for non-profit status as a Wisconsin-based 501(c)3 corporation.

Thomas Wood, President of Historic Crystal Ballroom, stated, “There are not many old-time country ballrooms like the Crystal. Its current owners, Paul and Lisa Lauer, have lovingly preserved and enhanced the building while nurturing a lively community of ballroom dancers with weekly dances throughout the year. It is important that we preserve this architectural gem for our children and grandchildren.”

The meeting on Aug. 4 will focus on an upcoming fundraising campaign for buying and preserving the Crystal Ballroom.
