ASHWAUBENON – The rain held off midday Friday, July 20, for a roadway dedication ceremony honoring a late Ashwaubenon resident and former village president.

A private roadway off of Ridge Road in the Titletown District is now known as Mike Aubinger Way after Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, Ashwaubenon Village President Mary Kardoskee and Aubinger’s widow, Annette, all spoke leading up to the street sign unveiling.

Mike Aubinger Way was unveiled Friday, July 20, during a dedication ceremony in Ashwaubenon’s Titletown District.

Of all the road dedications the Packers have been involved in over the years, Murphy said “this is by far the biggest crowd we’ve ever had.”

Mike Aubinger, who passed away March 30, 2017, grew up in Ashwaubenon and served the village and surrounding area in various roles, including three terms as village president. He was also the publisher of The Press.

Murphy praised Mike Aubinger for working with the Packers to bring the Titletown District development from concept to reality.

“This, what you see right now, Titletown, would not be here were it not for Mike,” said Murphy, who noted he regrets Mike Aubinger didn’t live to see the Titletown District as it now exists. “He had a vision. What I liked about Mike, he’s one of the brightest people I’ve ever met, but he was so humble. It was never about Mike. It was always what’s best for the community, what’s best for Ashwaubenon.”

Kardoskee, who took over as village president after Mike Aubinger passed way, said he could have been named “Mr. Ashwaubenon.”

Annette Aubinger, widow of former Ashwaubenon village president and The Press publisher Michael Aubinger, speaks Friday, July 20, during the dedication ceremony for Mike Aubinger Way.

“He grew up here, his roots were here, he was always concerned about Ashwaubenon and how everything affected Ashwaubenon,” Kardoskee said. “…It will now always be Mike Aubinger’s Way.”

Annette Aubinger, who thanked those attending the dedication ceremony, said she believes her husband would have been “humbled and honored that a roadway is named after him.”

She said one expression that applies to him is “It Takes a Village.”

“In this case it did literally take a village to complete the beautiful Titletown and the attraction it is today,” Annette Aubinger said.

She said the Packers organization “made the last part of the journey of Mike’s life a happy one.”

“You will always be remembered and have a special place in my heart, and I want to thank you for this honor today,” Annette Aubinger said.
