ASHWAUBENON – A three-year-old boy, who had been listed in critical condition at a hospital after nearly drowning in a pool July 1 during a family get-together, walked into the Ashwaubenon Public Safety fire station Tuesday, July 10, wearing a Spiderman costume.

Calyx Harnowski joined his family to visit those involved in saving his life.

Captain Jody Crocker noted the boy was at a pool party in the village when he slipped into the pool and went under as Ashwaubenon and De Pere rescue crews responded at approximately 6:45 p.m. to the 600 block of Lida Lane.

“There were several people that were very instrumental in rescuing Calyx and saving his life,” Crocker said.

Crocker said having the boy visit the fire station following his rescue and recovery provided an opportunity to “celebrate the fact that the system does work.”

“With everybody working together, we’re able to see Calyx here today as this big super fighter that he is,” he said.

Crocker also used the occasion to encourage others to get CPR or First Responder training or join an organization where they can make a difference with other people.

“All the people that were involved in this (response to a near drowning) came together and did an awesome job,” he said. “And especially Calyx. Calyx is a huge fighter, and we’re glad to see you here today, buddy.”

The boy’s father, Josh Harnowski, and his mother, Katie, thanked those involved with saving their son’s life.

The family then went on a tour of the station to view the ambulance and firefighting equipment while being followed around by television crews on hand for the boy’s visit.
