ASHWAUBENON – Valley View Elementary School has been listed for 2018 among the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest school winners in Wisconsin after three students from there were state winners in their grade.

“We are considered a school winner because we had a student who was selected as a winner,” said Valley View Associate Principal Andy Bake. “It is unusual, though, that our one school had three state winners.”

Third-grader Evelyn Nesvacil not only was the Grade 3 Wisconsin state winner, she was also a national semifinalist for the National Handwriting Contest.

She was among the state grade-level winners who competed against each other and became one of two national semifinalists in each grade level competing to be chosen as the grand national grade-level champion.

The other two Valley View students to win the contest in their grade statewide included fourth-grader Claire Nesvacil and fifth-grader Kailey Hockers.

Bake said all the students at Valley View participated in this year’s National Handwriting Contest, for which K-2 students submitted manuscript (print) entries with students in grades 3-8 submitting cursive handwriting entries.

The sentence all students were required to write on their entry form, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog,” was chosen because it contains every letter of the alphabet.
