Howard Trustee Jim Lemorande passes away

By Press Staff

HOWARD – A village trustee who was re-elected to a new two-year term in April has passed away.

The death Jim Lemorande, who represented Wards 9 and 10 since 2008 and previously served as a Howard trustee from 1990-94 and again from 1997-98, was recognized at the Monday, June 11, village board meeting with a moment of silence.

Village President Burt McIntyre said Lemorande passed away Monday morning with his family around him after “fighting a battle for the last several months.”

“He will be missed,” said McIntyre, who also noted the evening of the board meeting that details of the funeral arrangements would be forthcoming.

Lemorande, who had worked for 38 years with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation before retiring, also served as a volunteer firefighter in Howard for 18 years and was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard for eight years.

He had been absent from board meetings in recent months and was re-elected as a trustee this spring after facing a three-way primary with Tim Meves and Scott Beyer in February and then outpolling Meves in the April general election.

Howard Director of Administrative Services Chris Haltom said it will be up to the board to appoint a replacement for Lemorande to fill his seat until next April’s general election, when the person receiving the most votes would serve the final year of the term until the seat would be up for election to a new full two-year term in April 2020.
