OSHKOSH – Bay Port High School students took home five awards at the Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association Conference at UW Oshkosh on April 18.

One of the awards was given to the school newspaper, Portside, which is advised by Sarah Meyer.

The Portside staff received Red Ribbon Honors in the publication division for large-sized schools that publish a newspaper in class.

In addition, four awards were presented for the school yearbook, The Anchor, which Vicki Quinn advises.

In the writing division, Mia Flynn and Maggie Murphy took first in Divider and Savannah Huben and Meghan Bain took first in Double-Page Spread-Student Life.

In the design division, Jada Jacques took second in Cover Design.

The Anchor staff also received Blue Ribbon Honors in the publication division for large-sized schools that publish a yearbook.

The NEWSPA conference is held each spring and brings about 400 high school journalists and their advisers to theUW-Oshkosh campus to learn from more than 40 professionals.

This year, students representing 20 high schools attended the conference, and about 750 first-, second-, third- and fourth-place honors were awarded to high school journalists in NEWSPA’s newspaper and yearbook contests at the closing award ceremonies.
