SUAMICO – The Bay Port softball team was finally able to get outside and play a game.

The Pirates hosted the Denmark Vikings in a scrimmage April 27 at the high school and dropped a 6-3 contest.

Sydney LaPoint, a St. Cloud State University recruit and reigning Fox River Classic Conference co-player of the year, started on the mound for Bay Port and went two innings. The senior right-hander struck out six and gave up two hits. Alexis Tingley and Nicole Vandervest also saw action on the mound.

With the game tied at three going into the top of the sixth, Denmark scored three runs to put the game away.

Maddy Ehlke had two hits for the Pirates, while Emma Hock, Vandervest, Hailey Dickey, Kati Conard (double), LaPoint, Karigann Wood and Allyson Gajeski also had hits.

Ehlke, a first-team all-conference player as a freshman a season ago, scored two runs, while LaPoint was credited with the other.

Dickie and Wood each had an RBI.

Bay Port will open up FRCC play Saturday, April 28, when they travel to Sheboygan North High School to take on Pulaski in a doubleheader.
