SUAMICO – Vanessa Moran and incumbent Jeff Eilers both won seats on the Board of Education for the Howard-Suamico School District on Tuesday, April 3.

Moran received 3,892 votes (36.71 percent) and Eilers 2,772 votes (26.15 percent).

Challengers Maria Lara received 2,239 votes (21.12) and Tony Yaggie received 1,626 votes (15.34 percent).

“I’m incredibly humbled and honored and very grateful for all of my supporters, especially my former students and parents of those students that worked tirelessly to help with this campaign, as well as dozens of friends and my family.” Moran said. “This race meant so much to me, I just wanted to be able to continue to serve the district and the students I love, and being a member of the school board will allow me to do so and give me an avenue to continue that work.”

Eilers said he is happy to get elected to his fourth term serving the district.

“It feels great. I really am glad that the community can see that I’m the right person to stay and it’s just a wonderful feeling,” he said. “It was a little bit of a tighter race than I liked but I’m glad I was able to stay and show the community they made the right choice.”

The next meeting of the HSSD school board is on Monday, April 9 at the district office.
