Jaguars Girls Soccer Preview: Super Sophomores lead the way

ASHWAUBENON-Last years Freshman are now a year older and will look to make an impact on the girls soccer team in 2018.

Sophomores Erica Conrad, Haley Ehmke, Norah Kinsman, Gabby Langenhuizen, and Lydia Schaible, accounted for 80% of the scoring for a team that finished 5-13-3 overall (2-7 FRCC Conference).

Kinsman and Ehmke led the group with 5 goals a piece, while Conrad contributed 5 assists.

The Jaguars did win two of their last three games last year to bolster the confidence of the ‘young bunch’ heading into this season.

The Jaguars will need to produce more than 20 goals, however, if they are going to win in and out of conference.

“A number of times we played underclassmen on the field who went up against juniors or seniors on other teams,” commented  Rick Kremer, Jaguars Soccer Coach. “We had a number of girls train in the offseason and their soccer games should be that much stronger. We are a year wiser and my hope is that we can distribute the ball better, which should in turn lead to more shots on goal.”

Tahlia Micoley, and Sarah O’Brien will be back on the defensive side of things to help Breanna Adamczak keep balls from going into the net.

“We gave up 77 goals last year which was way too many,” added Kremer. “Another key to our season will be how well we can keep the opposition’s two or three best players from putting the ball in the goal. We have to contain them early and not let them just have the open-field. We have a full-time goal keeper in Adamczak who really steps up in big situations.”

With the graduation of a few key players, look for Addy Francois, Jayme Kiser, Addison Stromberg, and Chrissy Timmins to take on much bigger roles.

The Jaguars will be tested early when they host Luxemburg Casco and Menasha in non-conference contests.
