GREEN BAY – The Bay Port wrestling team had a good showing at the WIAA D1 Green Bay West Regional Feb. 10.

Eight Pirates – Tristan Warzynski (106), Connor Halverson (113), Chance Osmanski (120), Caleb Hale (152), Chandler Stordeur (160), Travis Jahnke (170), Jack Ehrfurth (182) and Max Meeuwsen (220) – all advanced to the Green Bay Preble Sectional Feb. 17.

The top two finishers at sectionals will advance to Madison Feb. 22-24 for the individual state tournament.

“There were no big surprises as to our individuals that made it,” said Bay Port head coach Brad Shefchik. “Unfortunately, Austin (Heim) suffered a high-ankle sprain (against Pulaski Feb. 1) and was unable to compete. It was a rough week on many levels.”

Bay Port finished fourth as a team behind Pulaski, Preble and De Pere with its 133.5 points. Pulaski won the regional title with a 203.5 total.

“It will be a tough sectional this weekend,” added Shefchik. “Based on ranking and seeds, we don’t have any front-runners for the two state qualifiers for each weight class, but we are hopeful that some of our kids will out-wrestle their seed.”
