Scanlan Jewelers opens in Suamico

SUAMICO – A family owned business that has called Wisconsin home for 114 years is now in Suamico.

Scanlan Jewelers just opened in the Urban Edge Towne Centre and is excited to offer its customer-first approach to anyone who walks in the door.

“It’s not just about business, it’s about being a family here to help,” said Judy Scanlan, third generation owner.

The company started in 1903 with her grandfather Henry who sold and repaired watches to lumberjacks throughout northern Wisconsin.

In 1957 her father opened the first store in Appleton, now located at 2031 E. Calumet Street. Judy then opened another location at the East Town Mall in 1983.

It’s that store which moved to Suamico at the end of December.

Scanlan said Suamico is a good fit for her family business because they saw the need for a jewelry store in the area and they really liked the close sense of community.

Unlike chain stores Scanlan puts customers first and foremost.

“We pride ourselves on long-lasting customer relationships,” said Wendy Knight, Judy’s daughter.

One example is working with each customer to find exactly what they need. If something can be changed on a piece, or if a customer wants something unique, Scanlan will be happy to oblige.

The store offers a wide selection of engagement and wedding rings, necklaces, birthstones, charms, watches, and even ornate musical clocks.

“We have something to commemorate every and all life events,” Scanlan said.

That includes not only the typical jewelry milestones, like engagements and weddings, but birthdays, births, remembrance pieces and much more.

The small staff strives to offer a relaxed environment to work with customers in any price range.

But part of what Scanlan offers is peace of mind.

The store offers free jewelry inspections and cleaning, plus has a goldsmith at it’s Appleton location for any repairs that might be needed.

Even though watches didn’t use batteries back when her grandfather sold them, Scanlan offers watch battery replacement and watch repair as well.

Another feature to make shopping a little easier for the men out there is that anyone can come in and create a wish list to make sure the piece they buy for their significant other is just right.

Scanlan is also currently running a 20-percent-off sale for its opening.

Scanlan Jewelers opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information give them a call at 920-465-9829.
