Name:             Evan Wood

Sport:              Boys Basketball

Twitter:          @woodang2152

Evan Wood is a two-year varsity basketball performer for the Ashwaubenon Jaguars.

He only averages 2.8 points per game on this year’s team, but he contributes over four rebounds a game, takes care of the basketball on the offensive side of the floor, and is a team leader.

What is it like to be a leader on the Ashwaubenon basketball team? “I enjoy being a leader and having the younger guys look up to me. It can get a little difficult at times, but when things are going well, it’s a great feeling.”

What is your most embarrassing moment ever in basketball? “I took a shot which I thought was a wide open three last year against Bay Port. Next thing I knew, Cordell Tinch sent it back into like the 7th row.”

How many years have you been involved in basketball? “I started playing basketball in 1st grade. Anthony (Guarascio), Bryant (Phillips) and I played in a lot of 3 on 3 tournaments growing up.”

What is your most memorable moment in basketball? “It was last year against Manitowoc. I was dribbling to the top of the key and my defender just kind of fell. After I looked at him for what seemed like an hour, I hit a three that put the nail in the coffin for our team.”

What’s the hardest part about basketball? “Knowing what the other four guys on the court are thinking and going to do. Communication is a big part of the game.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be? “Dave Sparks. He has built successful businesses out of his hobbies and interests, and truly enjoys what he does.”

What are your college aspirations? “I’m most likely going to start at NWTC and pursue a welding or fabrication journey.”

What would your dream job be once you graduate? “A successful hunting and fishing guide.”

What are your hobbies? “I love hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with friends and family.”

What is your favorite sporting event ever attended? “The Wisconsin vs. LSU football game at Lambeau Field. The whole atmosphere of the game was crazy, and watching it with my dad is something I’ll never forget.”

What is your favorite type of music? “I like rock, classical and modern music-not the screaming death metal, though.”

What is your favorite thing to do on your phone?  “Go through social media and browse.”

What three words describe you?  “Ambitious, reliable, genuine”

What is your favorite trip ever taken?  “Two-years ago my family and I went to Tennessee for a week. I really enjoyed the State.”

Comments on Evan Wood: “Evan is the type of player every coach loves to have on his team,” said Jaguar Basketball Coach, Chris Karcz. “He comes to practice to get better each day, and has a ‘can do’ attitude on his face. He makes his teammates better, and I’m very proud of his dedication to the program in my first year as his Coach.”
