GREEN BAY- The Ashwaubenon Jaguar wrestling team defeated Sheboygan North 58-12, and De Pere by a final of 40-27 Thursday evening (Dec. 14) at Green Bay Preble High School.

Against the Golden Raiders, the Jaguars got off to a flying start behind the wrestling of Fernando Coronado, Dawson Dembroski, and Marty Kiernan.

Each garnered a fall (pin) to put the Jaguars up 34-0 midway through the match.

The Jaguars received three forfeits at the lower classifications, and they went onto capture the match by 46 points.

In the night cap, the Jaguars faced off against their Redbird counterpart.

The Redbirds took an early 21-7 lead with three falls amongst the first 6 matches contested.

The Jaguars then went on a tear, winning four of the next five matches. The only loss was a mandated forfeit the team had to take at 220 lbs.

Jaguar Freshman Nathan Moynihan won a key decision over Tommy Kratz of De Pere to start the run for the team.

The score stood Ashwaubenon 28 and De Pere 27 with just three matches remaining.

The final six wrestlers on the mat won over 200 matches combined in the 2016-17 season.

Needless to say, it was state caliber wrestling to finish the dual.

First up was Jaguar Cody Minor versus the Redbirds Sam Bruss. A takedown at the end was all that separated the two and Minor went on to capture the decision by a final of 6-4.

At that point the Jaguars went up 31 to 27.

The next to last match pitted Noah Leisgang of Ashwaubenon against Andrew Lopez of De Pere.

Leisgang and the team knew that if he could get a decision, the Jaguars would have the match secured against the Redbirds.

The match was very tight throughout and Leisgang received a key reversal to ultimately put him in front and win the match (5-3) and the overall dual for the Jaguars.

Coronado capped the evening off with a fall over De Pere’s George Lopez.

The Jaguars move to 2-1 in FRCC action.
