Name:              Matt Piontkowski

Sport:               Boys Hockey

Twitter:           @pionmatt

What is it like to be a leader on the Ashwaubenon hockey team?  “It is a privilege to be able to show the underclassmen how things work. When us seniors are gone, it is important that the new group continue the legacy of showing how strong teamwork is in hockey.”

What is your most embarrassing moment ever in hockey?  “In my second season of playing goalie, our team was on the road far from our home rink. I was all pumped up for the game, and when I was getting dressed I realized I had forgotten my skates back home.”

How many years have you been involved in hockey?  “I have been involved in hockey for six years now.”

What is your most memorable moment in hockey?  “My most memorable moment was in Sheboygan this year when we won two out of three games and earned 3rd place as a team. It was my first varsity tournament, and I recorded a shut-out in the final game. It was an awesome feeling.”

What’s the hardest part about hockey?  “The hardest part for me (as goalie) is when I’m facing a breakaway from the opposing team. You have to follow the puck the whole way down to the last second, and then guess at what way the opponent is going to shoot it.”

If you could be somebody for a day, who would it be?  “Devan Dubnyk”

What are your college aspirations?  “To be able to continue my dream of playing collegiate hockey, and to earn a good education so I can have a great job when I’m older.”

What would your dream job be once you graduate?  “Emergency Medical Technician”

What are your hobbies?  “Playing hockey, hunting, and fishing”

What is your favorite sporting event ever attended? “Stanley Cup playoff game when the Minnesota Wild faced off against the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2017 playoffs. It was an unbelievable site and atmosphere to be in. Even though my favorite team (Wild) lost, it was a great game and I will never forget the experience.

What is your favorite type of music?  “Country”

What is your favorite thing to do on your phone?  “Watch hockey highlights”

What three words describe you?  “Committed, hard-working, and fun”

What is your favorite trip ever taken?  “My favorite trip that I have taken would have to be to Arizona. I was able to see the Milwaukee Brewer spring training baseball games, and I got to see the mighty Grand Canyon.”

Comments on Matt Piontkowski: “Matt has exceeded our expectations so far on the young season,” said Matt Golden, Jaguar Hockey Coach. “He continues to improve week in and week out, and we can see him getting more and more confident each game. Amazingly, he didn’t start playing hockey till his freshman year.”
