BOYS BASKETBALL: in a Dec. 8 Fox River Classic Conference road game at Sheboygan South, the No. 2 ranked boys’ basketball team easily beat the Redwings, 72-29.

Coming off a victory over No. 1 ranked Stevens Point, Bay Port (3-0) easily handled South (0-5) behind 20 points from Cordell Tinch and 18 from Alec Nagel. The Pirates also got nine points from Deland Phillips and eight from Jack Plumb.

Bay Port led 32-15 at the break and outscored the Redwings 40-14 in the second half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: in the first of six straight road games, the girls’ basketball team beat Marshfield 49-39 in a non-conference road game on Dec. 8.

Sophomore McKenzie Johnson had a strong overall game for Bay Port, as she had 17 points, six rebounds and nine steals. Senior Sofia Draghicchio chipped in with 10 points, while Alaina Abel added nine.

The Pirates had 25 steals as a team and forced 38 Marshfield turnovers, but only shot 29 percent from the field (15-of-51).

WRESTLING: in the first FRCC dual of the season on Dec. 7, the Pirates wrestling team beat Green Bay Preble, 44-25.

Marcus Delfosse (132), Austin Heim (138), Alex Urban (182), Eli Trast (285) and Connor Halverson (120) all won via pin, while Matt Grzybowski (145) and Travis Jahnke (170) both won by major decisions. Caleb Hale (160) and Jack Ehrfurth (195) rounded out the scoring by collecting wins by decision.

Wrestlers get six team points for a pin or forfeit, four for a major decision (winning by a margin between 8 and 14 points) and three for a decision (winning by seven points or less).

BOYS SWIMMING: the boys swimming team won another invite, this time at Appleton West on Dec. 8.
The Pirates won the 14-team event with their 256 points, trailed closely by Neenah’s 244.

Bay Port won the 300 Backstroke Relay (Alec Jeffers, Victor Kostov, Kyle Zerbel) in a time of 3:11:05 for their only victory of the night, but four second-place finishes were enough to help propel the Pirates to the win.

BAY AREA ICE BEARS: the Ice Bears girls’ hockey team had another tie and a loss over the weekend in southern Wisconsin.

On Friday, Dec. 8, Bay Area tied Rock County at one. The Ice Bears took a 1-0 lead into the final period but couldn’t hold the lead. Katerina Zrnova (Ashwaubenon) scored the only goal for Bay Area and goalie Delaney Butterfield (Notre Dame) made 39 saves on 40 shots. Bay Port’s Talia Boyea had an assist.

On Saturday, the Ice Bears dropped a 2-1 game to Cap City. Kalli Mikesch (Bay Port) scored the only goal for Bay Area, while Mia Dunning (Ashwaubenon) got the assist on the goal. Butterfield stopped 26 of the 28 shots she saw.

The Ice Bears are now 3-2-3 on the young season.
