BOYS SWIMMING: the boys’ swimming team got off to a good start with a victory at the Oshkosh West Invite on Dec. 2.

The Pirates won with a total of 548.5 over runner-up Neenah, who had 465 points.

Overall event winners for Bay Port were Calvin Schilz in the 200 IM (2:01:29), Griffin Hawley in the 50 Free (22:24), Aaron Donovan in the 500 Free (5:06:61) and the 200 Free Relay team (Hawley, Wyatt Dvorak, Ben Storby, Peter Martin – 1:33:32).

The Pirates also had four second-place finishes and seven thirds, showing their depth.

In a Dec. 5 dual with Green Bay United, the Pirates also won by a 95-75 margin over their FRCC rival.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: the girls’ basketball team improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Fox River Classic Conference with a pair of wins last week.

The Pirates beat Sheboygan South in a home FRCC game on Nov. 28, 74-30. McKenzie Johnson led the way with 12 points, while Peyton Coughlin and Emma Nagel each chipped in with 10. Nagel added 12 rebounds.

In a 54-51 FRCC win on Dec. 1 at Pulaski, once again Johnson led the way with 13 points. Nagel and Mady Draak both had nine, while Nagel had 11 rebounds.

HOCKEY: the boys’ hockey team split in two games last week to bring their record to 2-1 overall.

Bay Port dropped a 4-3 overtime game to Fond du Lac on Nov. 29 and then beat Appleton United 3-0 on Dec. 2.

In the loss to the Cardinals, Aaron Ribar and Nick Messerschmidt gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but Fondy went ahead 3-2 on consecutive goals. Carl Cano tied the game at three before Fond du Lac won it 3:30 in the overtime period. Goalie Riley Baye had 16 saves on 20 shots.

In the win over Appleton, Max McNeil, Max Moore and Ribar all got goals, while Baye stopped all 16 shots he saw.

GIRLS HOCKEY: the Bay Area Ice Bears girls’ hockey team also split a pair of games last week to improve to 3-1-1.

Bay Area got a 6-1 win over the Lakeshore Lightning on Nov. 28 and then lost to University School of Milwaukee 4-1 on Dec. 1.

In the win, Bay Port’s Kalli Mikesch had a hat trick (three goals), while Talia Boyea, also from Bay Port, added a goal. Tessa Andrews (De Pere) and Evelyn Vincent (Green Bay Southwest) closed out the scoring. Delaney Butterfield (Notre Dame) had 15 saves.

WRESTLING: in the Pirates first meet of the season at the Luxemburg-Casco Invite on Dec. 2, Bay Port was defeated handily by the host Spartans, 60-15.
Eli Trast won a 5-0 decision at heavyweight, while Connor Halverson (120) and Marcus Delfosse (126) both got pins for the Pirates’ only other points of the match.
