Bay Port Sports Shorts: Perry, Ceaglske, Have Strong Showing at State Tennis

GIRLS TENNIS: the No. 11 seeded double’s duo of Devan Perry and Rachel Ceaglske had a strong showing at the WIAA girls’ tennis state championships in Madison on Oct. 12-14.
The pair won their opening two matches before dropping a three-set heartbreaker in the round of 16.
Ceaglske, a senior, and Perry a freshman, got past Lizzie Peterson and Lili del Campo (Brookfield Central) 2-6, 7-6 (2) (5) in the opening match, before beating Grace Hackinson and Mairin Kearny (Neenah) 7-5, 6-1 next.
Their season ended with a 4-6, 7-5, 5-7 loss to the Laura Nicholas-Abby Bremel (Madison West) team in the third round.
BOYS SOCCER: the boys’ soccer team got a 2-1 win over FRCC rival Green Bay Southwest on Oct. 10. Goals were scored by Justin Howe and Alex Craig.
With another 9-0 victory over Ashwaubenon on Oct. 12, Bay Port improved to 7-10-1 overall and finished the FRCC season 4-4-1.
The Pirates are a No. 7 seed in the upcoming WIAA D1 regionals and will play at No. 2 Appleton North on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:00.
VOLLEYBALL: the Lady Pirates volleyball team dropped a 3-0 FRCC match at Sheboygan North on Oct. 10 by a score of 23-25, 19-25 and 17-25.
The loss ended the Pirates’ conference winning streak at six.
Brooke Clement had eight kills and eight digs, while Mady Schroeder led the team with nine digs. Maura McGinnity added 19 assists.
Bay Port bounced back with a 3-2 FRCC victory over De Pere on Oct. 12. The win improved the Lady Pirates to 22-13 overall and ended their conference season at 7-2.
The scores in favor of Bay Port were 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 20-25 and 15-7.
Clement and Olivia Schaut each had 10 kills in the victory, while Alyssa Koska had nine. Schaut also added six serving aces.
Schroeder led the Pirates with 18 digs. Shelby Stelzer and Clement chipped in with 14 and 13 respectively. McGinnity had 30 assists.
The Pirates are a No. 5 seed in the upcoming WIAA D1 regionals and will host No. 12 Green Bay Preble on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:00.
