Bay Port Sports Shorts: Volleyball on Conference Roll, Girls Swim & Dive Wins Sheboygan South Invite

VOLLEYBALL: the Bay Port volleyball team improved to 21-12 overall and 6-1 in the Fox River Classic Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Green Bay Southwest on October 5.
The Lady Pirates got an easy 25-16, 25-10, 25-15, victory over the Trojans at Bay Port High School to win their sixth FRCC match in a row.
Olivia Schaut and Brooke Clement had 10 and 8 kills respectively, while Maura McGinnity added 5 aces and 32 assists. Mady Schroeder came in with 15 digs.
GIRLS SWIMMING: the Lady Pirates swim and dive teams won the Sheboygan South Invite on October 6 with their 568 points, which was an impressive 187 points better than second-place Sheboygan North.
Brightyn Zuelke (393.25), Ella Thibert (357.80) and Sasha Sliwinski (353.15) swept the top three spots in the 1-meter diving event.
Other winners were the 200 Medley Relay team (Riley Melendy, Erin Samels, Emma Lasecki, Lacy Geurts – 1:52:28), Lasecki in the 200 IM (2:08:43 – pool record) and 100 Butterfly (58:29), the 200 Freestyle Relay team (Geurts, Emily Zimmer, Sophia Thibert, Shae Gustafson – 1:46:59), Melendy in the 100 Backstroke (1:00:36), Samels in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11:29) and the 400 Freestyle Relay team (Melendy, S. Thibert, Gustafson, Lasecki – 3:48:16).
CROSS COUNTRY: the boys and girls cross country teams hosted De Pere on October 5 at Meadowbrook Park.
The boys nipped the Redbirds by a point (27-28), while the girls came in ten points behind De Pere (35-25).
Drew Dahlin led the boys with a time of 17:12, which was good enough for third. Other top-ten finishers were Kyle Thieme (4th, 17:12), Nick Key (5th, 17:25), Drew Abfall (7th, 17:48) and Andrew Aderhold (8th, 17:51).
Savannah Huben blazed to a winning time of 19:20, a full 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Rachel Hoffman (3rd, 20:23), Maddie Peck (9th, 21:54) and Eden Witt (10th, 21:58) all placed in the top ten.
GIRLS TENNIS: the No. 1 doubles team of Devan Perry and Rachel Ceaglske will take part in the WIAA D1 state tennis tournament in Madison on October 12-14. The duo, who received a No. 11 seed, advanced through the Ashwaubenon Subsectional and Notre Dame Sectional. Perry is a freshman, while Ceaglske is a senior.
BOYS SOCCER: despites leading FRCC powerhouse Green Bay Preble 1-0 at the half, the Bay Port boys’ soccer team dropped a 3-1 game to the Hornets on September 26.
Griffin Pecore scored the only goal of the game for the Pirates.
In a 6-1 nonconference win over Wisconsin Rapids on October 5, Bay Port got two goals from Payton Nichols and one each from Pecore, Alex Craig, Calvin Schilz and Zach Meyer.
The Pirates sit at 5-10-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the FRCC.
