Sophomore Rylie Severson (Jaguars #1 Player) and Junior Zion Estano (Jaguars #2 Player) both started their day with errant drives and follow up shots. What ensued was a rough start for both. Severson carded a front nine 56 that included a triple bogey, bogey start. However, she steadied her nerves starting on number 10 with a par and followed that up with a great iron shot into the par 3 fifteen hole to add another par. Her spectacular back nine total of 47 gave her an 18 hole total of 103 and was good enough to advance by 5 strokes in the end.

Estano hooked her drive into a bush on number 1 and had to hack out a few times down the left rough line before settling for an 8 on the opener. She followed that up with a double bogey on the par 5 second hole. She then parred number 3, and bogied number 5 to get back to the golf she knows how to play. Her putter deserted her on the front nine, but came to life on the back. Estano bogied three of the first four holes on Brown County’s tougher back side after saving strokes with her flat stick. After 17 holes, Estano was close to the cut of making it through. However, a triple bogey on the ever difficult 18th hole left her wondering if a 108 total would be enough to advance. Kristy Koenig of DC Everest finished her round with an identical score of 108. Koenig finished strong with a 24 on the last 5 holes. However, fortune would be with the Jags on this day! After a front nine 51, Koenig came to the back nine and had to take a 2-stroke penalty on the 10th hole for playing a wrong ball that was her teammates coming down #9 fairway. After a lengthy twenty-minute rules discussion, it was determined that Koenig had to go back to the original spot, play her ball, and was hitting her fifth shot.  Those two strokes, in the end, helped pay dividend for Estano (won the tiebreaker)  to advance to October 3rd’s Golf Sectional held at Thornberry Creek Golf Course. Jaguar Head Golf Coach Kevin Penza,“Brown County is a very tough golf course. I was very happy with how the team performed in a competitive environment.  The girls appeared to have a lot of fun.  I think sectionals is going to be a great test. There are a lot of competitive teams and individuals that made it.  I think the girls will enjoy the competition, and they will have a lot of fun testing themselves against the best in the area. Rylie and Zion have been golfing very well the last few weeks. If they can golf calm, confident, and smart, they will shoot a score they are proud of.”
