SUAMICO – The Bay Port girls’ tennis team got a big win over Fox River Classic Conference rival Green Bay Southwest on August 29.
Despite losing all three doubles matches, the Lady Pirates swept the singles portion of the dual to come out with a 4-3 win over the Trojans.
With the team win, Bay Port improved to 1-1 in the FRCC after they lost to Notre Dame in their first match on August 21.
Against Southwest, Devan Perry and Mexican foreign exchange student Meylna Ramirez both dominated at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively with identical, 6-1, 6-1, victories.

Meylna Ramirez volleys at the net. Ramirez won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Rachel Ceaglske and Sidney Kropp also both won in straight sets for Bay Port in the other singles matches.
A highlight in doubles for the Pirates came at No. 3 where the duo of Jordanne Hanson and Grace Krause put up a fight before falling, 3-6, 5-7.
Due to an ailing shoulder, Southwest’s Ashley Buzaitis played at No. 2 doubles. Buzaitis was a WIAA state qualifier a season ago in singles, where she made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Bay Port’s Isabelle Lee.
Bay Port is next in action on Tuesday, September 5, when they travel to Sheboygan South for another FRCC match.
